3 Ways to Improve Communication with Your Real Estate Agent

Posted on: 13 November 2019

If you are working with a real estate agent in an attempt to sell your home, buy a home or both, you probably want to maintain the best possible communication with him or her. These are three tips that can help you improve communication with your real estate agent.

1. Remember That Your Real Estate Agent Wants to Help You

First of all, remember that your real estate agent is there to help you. Don't feel bad about being specific about what you're looking for when buying a home or otherwise letting your real estate agent know what you have in mind. You can make communication with your real estate agent a lot better for everyone who is involved by being direct. Of course, you'll want to be polite and professional when talking to your real estate agent, but there is nothing wrong with letting him or her know what you are thinking.

2. Ask Your Agent About Their Preferred Form of Communication

Ask your real estate agent how he or she would prefer to communicate. Some agents prefer to talk on the phone, while others find it more convenient to text or email. You can speak up about your preferences for communication, too.

3. Respond Quickly When Possible

Of course, you are probably really busy right now. Not only do you have to worry about your normal day-to-day responsibilities, but you also have to worry about getting your home ready to sell or preparing for your upcoming move. This means that you might not be able to respond to your realtor right away when he or she texts, and you might not always be able to get to the phone when he or she calls.

When possible, though, try to answer the phone or respond quickly when your real estate agent attempts to get in contact with you. If you're trying to sell your home, your realtor might need to contact you to try to arrange a last-minute showing or to let you know about an attractive offer from a potential buyer. If you're attempting to buy a home, your realtor might contact you to let you know about a great home that has hit the market for a great price and that might sell quickly. By being responsive, you can help make sure that you do not miss out on a sale or a home that might be perfect for you and your family.
