Shopping for a new home can be fun, but after a while it can begin to get stressful. You look and look, finally finding what you have been looking for, only to either find a problem with the home, or the house is sold before you get a chance to put in an offer. With all of the excitement and fun of shopping for a new home, you could end up overlooking some very important things that you may not have even thought about. 1. School System And Openings

You may have researched the school system in the area where you are looking for a new home, but have you looked to be sure the school has any openings? Some schools may be full and not able to take in any new students. If this is the case, you may have to drive your child to another school in an entirely new district. If you don't have the availability to drive your child to and from school each day, this can be a big problem. Before you put in an offer on a home, be sure that the schools are up to par and that they have availability for your child(ren).

2. Septic System

If the new home you are looking into has a septic system, you need to be sure to find out when it was last emptied and the last time it was maintained. Some people would rather move from their home than have to deal with a septic problem and may not be upfront about the system and any problems they have had. If the septic system needs to be dug out and replaced, this can be very costly to you. If you don't have the money to replace it, you could end up very upside down in your mortgage and your bills.

3. Mold

Mold isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you shop for a new home. You aren't looking for problems or issues; you are typically looking at the aesthetics of the home, which can cost you in the long run if you aren't careful. Don't overlook a mold problem, although sometimes it can be hard to see, as some homeowners will do their best to cover it up. If you smell fresh paint when you walk into a home, it may be because they just remodeled, or it could be to cover up a mold issue. Take a good look around the home and inspect corners and around the ceiling in every room. Also look for any bubbling paint, as this could be a moisture problem as well.

These are just a few of the things you may not think to look for in a new home. Don't get blinded by the idea of a new home and forget to look for these and other potential issues.
