Layout

Open layouts are more popular than ever, but if you're looking at older luxury properties, they may not have that nice open feel. In fact, traditionally, older homes tend to have a more formal layout consisting of several smaller rooms. Just remember, though, that with the help of an architect and an interior designer, you can likely knock down a few walls to create that open layout that you want. Before you make an offer on the luxury property, however, have an architect walk through the property with you to ensure that you can, in fact, knock down a few walls to make it more open.

Acreage

A large house on a tiny lot is going to feel less than luxurious. If you have always dreamt of a home with a pool, tennis court, or even a horse barn, then make sure that you are looking at properties that have enough acreage on them. Even if the current property is large but doesn't have these amenities, you can always add them later on in order to really get the home of your dreams. 

Searching for your dream home is a fun and exciting thing, but don't just rush into any old thing. By taking the location, layout, and acreage into consideration, you and your real estate agent should be able to find the luxury home of your dreams in no time.
